As an Advisor-Communications within our Public & Government Relations Department, you will be responsible for the development of internal and external communications products. They conduct research and work with subject matter experts and the strategic communications team to develop communication strategies.

 What will your typical day look like?

  • Development of communication products through research, writing, and copy editing. This includes but not limited to content for digital, speaking remarks, news releases, video scripts, internal communications, and other relevant communication products.
  • Development of executive level briefs and summaries on public and government relations issues as it pertains to policing and the organization.
  • Building and maintaining effective working relations with internal stakeholders and teams to ensure communication product development is accurate and consistent with organization’s branding and priorities.
  • Monitors brand reputation and discussions relating to the organization in mainstream and social media and advises on appropriate response or strategies.
  • Understands audience reach and value of different social media platforms, and able to develop relevant content and ensures communications products consider and are inclusive to internal and/or public sentiment.
  • Supports positive brand awareness through development of communication products that promote Peel Regional Police’s initiatives, members, and community.
  • Provides overarching communications support to the public affairs team on strategies and projects.
  • Monitors the appropriate media analytics and provides recommendations for any improvements.
  • Proactively identifies potential issues and risks and advises on mitigation strategies.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

 Enough about us, lets talk about you

You are someone with:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Digital Marketing, Journalism, English or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience. Social media experience required.
  • A minimum of three years experience in Journalism, Media and Public Relations or Communications.
  • Advanced research, writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of various social media platforms, ability to interpret analytics from social media platforms.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft 365 and other workflow/management software i.e. Monday.com, Hootsuite and etc.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a co-operative environment to gather information from across the organization and generate communications.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

What we offer

The salary range for this permanent, full-time position is $58,447.00 – $91,673.00 per annum. Peel Regional Police offers a highly competitive compensation package; applicants will be considered for the top end of the range ($80,214.00 – $91,673.00) based on experience. The salary is complemented with a comprehensive benefit program, including employer-paid Health/Dental and Life Insurance; and the OMERS Pension Plan effective upon hire.
