[ Senior Account Executive Responsibilities ] 

  • Support Account Managers, Directors and Leadership in maintaining regular communication with clients.
  • Lead 1-3 clients or projects as the point of contact
  • Assist in understanding and documenting client needs, goals, and expectations.
  • Monitor media outlets and relevant industry news to identify opportunities and potential challenges for clients.
  • Conduct research on target media outlets, journalists, and influencers.
  • Assist in the creation of compelling content, including press releases, pitches, social media content calendars and key messaging documents.
  • Contribute to the development of client presentations and reports.
  • Support the management of clients’ social media accounts, including content creation and scheduling.
  • Monitor social media channels for brand mentions and engagement opportunities.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of events, such as press conferences, product launches, and media/community events.
  • Assist in the preparation of regular client reports, summarizing media coverage, social media metrics, and other key performance indicators.
  • Collaborate with team members, including senior team and other junior staff, to contribute to overall campaign success.
  • Actively participate in internal meetings and brainstorming sessions.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Actively seek opportunities for professional development and learning within the PR field.
  • Support the distribution of press materials to media outlets and influencers.
  • Ensure timely and accurate dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders.
  • Support on any other tasks related to the business, as directed

[ Qualifications ]  

  • 2-4 years experience in the public relations industry, agency experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated track record of developing trusted client relationships
  • Successfully executed earned media programs that have landed top tier coverage
  • Curious mindset to execute media relations, corporate communications, crisis communications and thought leadership programs.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content creation
  • Excellent writing skills and an eye for a new media angle
  • Highly organized with an acute attention to detail
  • Passionate about the business world with a focus on finance, technology and real estate
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Relationship-centric approach to clients, team and media
  • You like to celebrate wins and learn from mistakes

[ Compensation & Benefits ] 

Category Communications values your dedication and talent. The salary band for this role ranges from $62,000 – $70,000 reflective of your experience and expertise. We will also be offering a bonus structure that rewards our dedicated team members based on the company’s overall performance. Category Communications is a flexible hybrid work environment. The ideal candidate is based out of the Greater Toronto Area, ON, and would have availability to be in-person at the Category office (Front St + John St in downtown Toronto) 1-2 days a week..

[ What to Expect During the Interview Process ]

We aim to make our hiring process thoughtful, transparent, and completed within two weeks. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Introductory Screening (30 minutes)

A casual conversation to learn more about your experience, values alignment, and role expectations.

2. Focused Interview (30 minutes)

A more in-depth interview focused on your skills, experience, and how you approach your work.

3. Take-Home Assignment (48 hours)

You will be asked to prepare a brief strategy presentation.

4. Final Interview & in-person Presentation (45 minutes)

An opportunity to walk us through your assignment and meet the Category Leadership team.

5. Reference Checks

We’ll connect with a few of your previous managers or colleagues.

6. Offer Stage

Successful candidates will receive a verbal offer via phone, followed by a formal offer letter and employment agreement sent by email.
